Truth is, I woke up on January 1st–really late, mind you–and immediately the negativity poured into my brain.
I shouldn’t have been surprised; it had happened the day before, though now the year before, but still: it was just a day’s difference.
Starting a new year doesn’t necessarily mean starting everything over. Perhaps it’s a second (or third or fourth) chance at something, at goals and hopes of accomplishing things, but it doesn’t mean the year before isn’t allowed into the new space. In fact, you’re just as messy as you were yesterday–last year.
